Historical connection
The older county inventory describes Clerk, Auditor, Treasurer, and Recorder series from the earliest county decades into the twentieth century. The current county directory calls the office File Management.
Where this office’s responsibility stops
File Management is an archival route, not a promise that every item is indexed, complete, unrestricted, or held at that counter. Current cases and newer marriage copies remain with the Clerk; recorded instruments, certificates, assessments, and tax payments have their own custodians.
Make a useful Whitley County File Management request
State the record group, names, date range, and any ledger, docket, cause, packet, instrument, book-page, or index reference. Ask whether staff can locate the item, whether self-directed onsite work is required, and whether the result will be an index entry, ledger, packet, or copy.
Verification notes
Current contact information comes from the county’s File Management listing. The older searchable Files Department page is retained only for its detailed collection inventory; its older phone and public hours are not copied as current.
