Historical connection
Marriage ledgers begin in 1838. The county says certified marriage copies from June 2007 forward are in the Clerk’s office; May 2007 and earlier material is in File Management.
Where this office’s responsibility stops
The Clerk keeps and issues court records but does not replace the judge, decide a pending case, or supply birth and death certificates. Older marriage and case material may have moved to File Management even though the Clerk remains the originating office.
Make a useful Whitley County Clerk request
For a court record, supply the court, cause number, case type, party names, and filing year. For a marriage record, give both names, the approximate date, and whether the request is for a license entry, application, return, ordinary copy, or certified copy.
Verification notes
The Indiana court directory confirms the Clerk’s courthouse address and telephone number. The county marriage service separately states the June 2007 division for certified copies, so current contact and archival routing are not inferred from one undated directory entry.
